WORCESTER, Mass. – UMass Memorial Health Care announced today that it has elevated Lisa Colombo, DNP, MHA, RN, from interim president to president of UMass Memorial – Clinton Hospital.
She formerly served as corporate vice president for clinical operations and chief nursing officer at UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital from 2009 to 2013. During her tenure there, she helped to make significant improvements in operations, technology implementations and development of the Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center as well as enhancing patient experience and quality management initiatives.
“I am extremely proud to rejoin UMass Memorial Health Care as the new president of Clinton Hospital,” said Dr. Colombo. “The caregivers’ commitment to affordable, patient-centered care is remarkable and it shows in the high patient satisfaction scores and quick, easy access to emergency care. We have many new initiatives in the pipeline and are positioned to grow and thrive in the coming years.”
Colombo holds a doctorate in nursing and has a master’s degree in health care administration. She is also an assistant professor in the Graduate School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the academic partner of UMass Memorial Health Care.
“Lisa is a leader with great integrity and vision and as expected, has done an outstanding job as interim president and validated all of the reasons we selected her to replace the retiring Sheila Daly,” said Douglas Brown, , president, community hospitals and chief administration officer of UMass Memorial Health Care. “Her 30-plus years of experience in nursing, inpatient and outpatient hospital administration, quality, safety and performance improvement, technology implementation, physician partnering and Lean management is ideally suited for our system’s integrated delivery approach. We are delighted to have Lisa lead our health care efforts in Clinton.”
“The local hospital is a vital part of any community and it requires a special kind of leader to understand the health care needs of its residents,” said William McGrail, Esq., chairman of the board of trustees for UMass Memorial - Clinton Hospital. “Lisa clearly demonstrated those qualities in an interim capacity and is unquestionably the right person for the hospital and the community.”
Dr. Colombo worked at UMass Memorial Medical Center in 2013 where she was interim senior vice president and chief nursing officer working on several operational and quality improvements. Prior to accepting her role with Clinton Hospital, Colombo was most recently senior vice president and chief nursing officer of Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
“Our caregivers at Clinton Hospital are getting a proven leader who understands what they go through on a daily basis,” UMass Memorial Health Care President and CEO Eric Dickson, MD, said. “Her understanding of our mission and goals and the important role Clinton Hospital plays in accomplishing those targets will serve UMass Memorial, our caregivers patients and the community well.”
