Deborah Weymouth Named HealthAlliance Hospital President & CEO

WORCESTER, MA –May 6, 2014 – UMass Memorial Health Care, the largest health care system in Central New England, today announced that Deborah Weymouth has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthAlliance Hospital. The appointment is effective June 16, 2014.

Ms. Weymouth most recently served as the Executive Director of New Milford Hospital in New Milford/Danbury, Connecticut (a member of the Western Connecticut Health Network (“WCHN”)) and Chief Integration Officer of WCHN.  While serving in these roles, she successfully integrated the daily operations of a community hospital with a large medical center. Her efforts resulted in strengthening the partnership of the community physicians, clinicians, donors, volunteers and staff to ensure the community continued to receive high-quality, safe care and service.

Ms. Weymouth is uniquely positioned to assume this role at HealthAlliance based on her more than fifteen years of progressive leadership experience within community hospital and health system settings, along with her most recent experience integrating and aligning a community hospital with a tertiary care system.  She has led and motivated diverse teams to reduce variations in care delivery while successfully providing high-quality, efficient care and service across a network of hospitals.

Ms. Weymouth also served previously as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Thompson Health, in Canandaigua, New York, where she successfully led that hospital in its recertification of Nursing Magnet status and restored the system to profitable operations for the first time in six years. Prior to working in healthcare, she was an executive in commercial banking in Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ as well as an educator.

Paul D’Onfro, Chairman of the HealthAlliance Hospital Board of Trustees, said, “Deborah is a perfect fit for the patients and families of our community as well as the physicians and staff of our hospital and its affiliates.  Her integration expertise will serve us well as a member of the UMass Memorial Health Care system, while her leadership skills and community hospital experience will allow the hospital to expand on its success.”

“We are excited to have Deborah join the UMass Memorial Health Care team as our newest hospital president and CEO.  She fundamentally understands the important and critical role that a community hospital plays within a health care system where delivering value -- the right care at the right place -- to our patients is our number one priority,” said Eric Dickson, president and chief executive officer for UMass Memorial Health Care.

Doug Brown, president of UMass Memorial Hospitals, Inc. and senior vice president for UMass Memorial Health Care, noted, “What’s most impressive about Deborah is what I would call her ‘passion for people.’  She defines her approach to working with teams as the need to first ‘get to people where they are.’  She believes in communicating achievable goals and setting expectations and is confident that creating a ‘people environment’ grounded in these principles allows all involved to consistently rise to the challenge.  We are thrilled to have her in our system and we know she will be a strong and effective leader for HealthAlliance and its community.”

Ms. Weymouth said: “I couldn’t be more excited about joining HealthAlliance Hospital. This dedicated and committed team of physicians, clinicians, board members and staff made it very clear to me that this is an organization that understands its mission to its community and takes pride in exceeding expectations. Undoubtedly, HealthAlliance Hospital is a key component in the execution of the UMass Memorial Health Care strategy – delivering integrated, standardized and coordinated care in the highest quality, affordable manner for the entire region.  I am excited about the opportunity to join the highly skilled team at HealthAlliance and UMass Memorial Health Care.”

Ms. Weymouth is a graduate of Springfield College with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Rehabilitation.  She received her Master in Business Administration – Master of International Management / Finance from Thunderbird Global Management School in Phoenix Arizona. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a former Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award reviewer.

Ms. Weymouth succeeds Patrick Muldoon, who became president of UMass Memorial Medical Center in July 2013. Michael Cofone, who was the chief financial officer for HealthAlliance, served as interim president during the search.
