Diabetes Education Programs

The Diabetes Education Programs at HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital are recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Facilitated by a certified diabetes nurse educator and a certified diabetes dietitian, these programs help you understand diabetes, the importance of daily blood glucose testing, how nutrition and exercise positively impact diabetes, and other important topics.

Diabetes Self-Management Education Program

The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program applies a team approach to make sure participants' needs are met. The six-week program includes:

  • Formulation of a meal plan by a registered dietitian
  • One-on-one visit with a certified diabetes nurse educator
  • Six 90-minute group classes taught by a team of experts
  • A booklet on diabetes management
  • Follow up on progress after completion of the program

Gestational Diabetes Education Program

The Gestational Diabetes Self-Management Education Program applies a multidisciplinary approach to make sure the needs of mother and baby are met. The program includes:

  • Formulation of a meal plan by a registered dietitian
  • One-on-one visit with a certified diabetes nurse educator
  • A booklet and handouts on pregnancy and diabetes management
  • A six-week program on preconception counseling

Endocrinology

Endocrinologists at HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital focus on disorders of the internal secretion glands and how they interact with the body's function. These include diabetes and disorders of the pancreas, pituitary gland, ovaries, testes, thyroid and adrenal glands.
