J. Christopher Cutler, FACHE

I am pleased to have served as a Member of the UMass Memorial Medical Group since 2015. This opportunity encourages me to extend my initial, 1974 commitment to the delivery of health care in Central Massachusetts. I believe the Group will play a significant role in the UMass Memorial enterprise as physicians work to direct appropriate, high quality, clinical care and advocate for its financing.

Following early work at The Boston Hospital for Women and a graduate degree from the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota, I joined the administrative team just completing and opening the new University Hospital in Worcester. I worked another six years at Worcester Memorial Hospital, responsible for hospital system development, clinical service strategies, and diversified businesses, highlighted by the establishment of the state’s first provider-owned PPO.

Several years of consulting work with a national health strategies firm and an international software company afforded me a significant opportunity with physician-developed software that measured the quality of clinical care in hospitals.

Since 1991 I have practiced as an independent consultant, specializing in the governance, strategic thinking and integration of healthcare organizations and the design of delivery systems. I work extensively with trustees and senior executives of hospitals and healthcare associations on governance performance, organizational strategies, affiliations, and mergers.
