HEART NEWS TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY AND WELL

YOU HAVE ONLY ONE HEART. TAKE CARE OF IT.
At the UMass Memorial Heart and Vascular Center, we know enough about heart disease to fill hundreds of books. We must because thousands of beating hearts in Central Massachusetts count on our expertise every day to help keep them healthy and to heal them when they aren't working quite as they should.

It's our job to know about heart disease so you don't. But there are steps you can take to improve your heart health. The most important of these is understanding your own individual risks for heart disease. These risks differ for all of us depending on our age, diet, physical conditioning and smoking status.

American Heart Month is a reminder that we all must be vigilant in the fight against heart disease, the nation's number 1 killer. I encourage you to talk with your doctor about your risks for heart disease and to schedule blood pressure and cholesterol screenings to get an assessment of your current heart health.

We have some great information available to you at www.umassmemorialhealthcare.org/heart-month that will provide more details on fighting heart disease.

Thank you,

John Keaney Jr., MD
Chief, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
