The Standards of Respect are important because there is nothing worse than feeling like you’re being disrespected in the workplace. It can make a person develop trust issues and affect morale and how engaged they are in their work.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own world that we forget about the people around us. If we listen, their insight can add a lot of value to what we’re doing. In my work, I try to actively listen by being open and letting go of any previous beliefs or past experiences. I also empathize and try to put myself in their shoes. This helps me come up with an approach that will help them.

In order for the Standards of Respect to be successful, each individual must commit to change. Like Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
