Blood Donation Center
Why donate platelets at the UMass Memorial Blood Donor Center?
Thousands of patients at UMass Memorial receive blood transfusions a year. The need for platelets outweighs the current resources, and that’s why your donation is so important. Accident victims, people being treated for cancer and leukemia, and people undergoing surgery need blood transfusions. You can ensure they will get the help they need. Please note we are currently only collecting Platelets, we are no longer accepting Whole Blood and we are not accepting plasma.
What Can You Expect at the Center?
We collect platelets from volunteer donors at our Blood Donor Center using automated apheresis equipment. Our staff will explain the donation process and will be close by during and after the donation. Platelet units collected at our center are transfused to patients at the Medical Center.
We value your time and dedication, so we want to make sure that you are in and out as quickly as possible. The donation portion of your appointment will take about 75 minutes.
Appointments are required for platelet donations. For more information or to make an appointment, call 508-421-1950.
