WHERE: UMass Memorial Medical Center Remillard Lobby, University Campus, 55 N Lake Ave., Worcester
WHY: Kidney diseases are silent killers and The Division of Renal Medicine at UMass Memorial Health Care is doing their share by offering free screenings on World Kidney Day. With more than 10% of the American population suffers from chronic kidney disease, it is also the 9th leading cause of death in the United States. And, in many cases, it is preventable.
For the fourth year, the UMass Memorial Medical Center Division of Renal Medicine is offering the screenings which consist of a quick questionnaire regarding risk factors, and if applicable, a blood pressure and urine sample check with a physician consultation as needed.
“Early stage kidney disease is especially dangerous because there are no real symptoms,” says Konstantin Abramov, MD, Chronic Kidney Disease Program Director, Renal Division. “Simple tests can help identify and treat the disease before it becomes life-threatening,”
The Renal Medicine Team is focused on raising awareness about preventive behaviors, about risk factors, and about how to live with kidney disease.
The screening is free, open to the public and no registration is required.
