Sergio Melgar Named UMass Memorial Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Experienced Health Finance Executive to Fill Key Role for Health Care System

WORCESTER – January 7, 2014 – Eric Dickson, MD, MHCM, FACEP, President and Chief Executive Officer of UMass Memorial Health Care, today announced that Sergio Melgar has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at UMass Memorial Health Care, the largest health care system in Central New England. The appointment is effective January 13, 2014.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Melgar will be responsible for system finances, Information Technology, and several other key corporate functions.

Mr. Melgar was most recently Chief Financial Officer International Operations in Santiago, Chile for CHRISTUS Health in Irving Texas, a system in excess of $4.3 billion in revenue.

Prior to that role, he was University Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and Chief Financial Officer for University of Kentucky Healthcare. He also spent 10 years as Chief Financial Officer for UCLA Healthcare in Los Angeles, CA.

Mr. Melgar spent the first 11 years of his career in public accounting with specialization in health care for Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young.

Mr. Melgar earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
