Transfusion medicine specialists provide a wide range of consultative services to many areas of our Medical Center including our Level I Trauma Center and our transplant program. We bring blood products and services to our patients with bleeding disorders.

Services include:

• Blood donation
• Consultations for patients with blood disorders
• Peripheral blood stem cell collection for marrow transplantation
• Therapeutic phlebotomy
• Therapeutic apheresis

Areas of special expertise include:

• Care of patients with sickle cell disease
• Clinical consultations for anemias and other abnormalities of the blood counts
• Clinical consultations for blood clotting disorders
• Evaluation and management of failure to respond to blood product transfusion
• Evaluation and management of transfusion reactions
• Provision of routine and specialized products for transfusion
• Treatment of iron overload and polycythemia
