Lipids Clinic

At UMass Memorial Medical Center, our Lipids Clinic offers treatment for your cholesterol problems.

Lipids are fats consumed in the diet and circulate in the blood. Cholesterol and triglycerides are types of lipids. Lipid levels may not fall into the normal range due to aging, certain medications, eating a diet high in saturated fat, being overweight or not being active. Abnormal levels of lipids can contribute to artery blockage or atherosclerosis and lead to heart disease.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Cholesterol Disorders

Cardiologists in the Lipids Clinic work with you to develop a care plan that helps manage cholesterol and triglycerides.

Excess cholesterol can build up in the arteries, narrowing them and slowing or blocking blood flow to the heart, brain and other organs. Take this quiz to see what you know about cholesterol.

Proper cholesterol management can decrease your chances of stroke, heart attack, hospitalization, disability and death. Our program offers:

  • Advanced lipid and genetic testing
  • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
  • Exercise recommendations
  • Nutritional instruction
  • Risk-factor education
  • Screening for diabetes and metabolic syndrome
