Lupus

If you or a family member has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, such as lupus, you can be assured that you will receive expert treatment from the Rheumatology Center of UMass Memorial Medical Center

What is Lupus?

Lupus happens when the immune system attacks its tissues, causing inflammation, swelling, pain, and damage. Lupus symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, fever and a lupus rash.

If you have been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (also known as lupus or SLE) or have features that are suggestive of this diagnosis, it’s important to see a rheumatologist to confirm the diagnosis and start appropriate treatment.
