About Our Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery represents one of the broadest groups within UMass Memorial Medical Center, with 10 divisions on the University, Memorial, and Hahnemann campuses in Worcester, MA. We also provide specialty care through our member hospitals and at clinical office locations in the community.

Surgical care is also provided through the departments of Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Urology.

In addition, the Department of Surgery oversees the Injury Prevention Center, dedicated to reducing traumatic injuries in the community we serve through coordinated outreach and education.

As part of a major academic medical center partnered with the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, we are proud to lead and participate in scores of clinical trials to not only further the world’s understanding of disease and treatment, but to offer our patients access to innovative therapies. The Department of Surgery at UMass Memorial also oversees several training programs for medical students and surgical residents and fellows, training the next generation of doctors to provide advanced but compassionate, effective care for patients today.  Learn more about research and teaching at our academic medical center.
