Shields Health Care Group and UMass Memorial Health Care Announce the Addition of the First 3T MRI Scanner in the Worcester Region
State-of-the-Art Scanner Improves Image Clarity, Patient Comfort and Exam Speed
WORCESTER, Mass. – March 23, 2016 – Shields Health Care Group (Shields) and UMass Memorial Health Care today announced that patients now have access to a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner at the imaging center located at 214 Shrewsbury Street.
This newest wide-bore 3T MRI from General Electric (GE) is the most advanced scanner available for clinical use. It provides physicians with the finest level of detail and improved image quality for better patient diagnoses, while enhancing the patient experience.
“The addition of the 3T locally enables us to offer the state-of-the-art imaging that our patients expect from our system,” said Dr. Max Rosen, chair, Department of Radiology, UMass Memorial Medical Center. “It’s imaging that compliments the level of their care.”
The top benefits of the GE SIGNA Pioneer 3T scanner include:
- offering sharper resolution which is particularly beneficial for small bones and microstructures
- reducing scan times up to 50 percent compared to traditional MRIs
- providing the maximum comfort to decrease feelings of claustrophobia
- creating ample room for larger patients with its wide-bore design
- significantly reducing scanning noise
- being able to compensate for patient movement during the scan leading to fewer repeat scans
The Shields and UMass Memorial Health Care network, featuring five locations in Central Massachusetts, is known for its quality and value. As such, patients will have local access to this new technology at the same price as the other high-field MRI systems.
“We are proud to expand the technology offering in Worcester through our successful partnership with UMass Memorial Health Care. The Shields network includes five 3T MRI machines throughout the state and now Worcester-area patients also have access to the latest technology available in the market,” said Tom Shields, president and CEO of Shields Health Care Group.
The longstanding joint venture partnership with Shields Health Care Group and UMass Memorial Health Care provides MRI and PET/CT services at five UMass Memorial Health Care locations throughout Central Massachusetts including: the Medical Center at Memorial Campus, the Medical Center at University Campus and Shrewsbury St. Imaging Center, all in Worcester; as well as HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster; and Marlborough Hospital, Marlborough.
