Be Mentally Well: Addressing the Challenge of Obesity

The Department of Psychiatry presents “Addressing the Challenge of Obesity - Bariatric Surgery, Behavioral Health and Food Addiction: Treatment Challenges and Strategies.” This program is part of the Be Mentally Well Lecture Series.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one-third of U.S. adults are obese. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. Obesity and obesity-related conditions is common among persons with mental illness. This program will provide a forum to discuss what people need to know about managing obesity and being overweight, as well as strategies to address obesity, such as lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery, and food addiction treatment. Attendees will also hear a personal journey with obesity, bariatric surgery and food addiction.
