If you have been diagnosed with skin cancer, UMass Memorial Medical Center offers you Mohs surgery, a specialized treatment for removal of skin cancer. This method differs from all other methods of treating skin cancer by the use of complete examination of all tissues removed, as well as the ability for the surgeon to track and remove all of the roots and extensions of the skin cancer.
The Most Advanced Treatment for Skin Cancer
Mohs micrographic surgery removes skin lesions one layer at a time for immediate examination under a microscope. The procedure allows for a close examination of each skin layer to detect cancer cells and offers you the highest chance for recovery. It has a very high cure rate of up to 96 to 99 percent, even when other forms of treatment have failed. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia in our outpatient clinic by our Mohs surgeons.
