Gestational Diabetes

If you develop diabetes during pregnancy, you may need special medical care. Gestational diabetes care is offered by our maternal-fetal medicine physicians at UMass Memorial Medical Center, who specialize in the care of high-risk pregnancies and provide the very best care for you and your baby.

What Is Gestational Diabetes?

Gestational diabetes, also called pregnancy induced diabetes, occurs in women who never had diabetes before but who have high blood sugar levels during pregnancy.

A high-risk pregnancy is one in which certain conditions, such as diabetes, put you, your developing fetus or both at higher-than-normal risk for complications during pregnancy and/or after your baby’s birth.

We want to make your experience with us as comfortable as possible and will work with you to develop a care plan that meets your needs and lifestyle.
