Trauma Surgery

UMass Memorial Medical Center’s trauma surgeons provide around-the-clock, cutting-edge critical care for patients from throughout Central and Western Massachusetts. We provide the most advanced trauma and emergency care for thousands of adults and children annually.

The Duddie Massad Emergency and Trauma Center

The Duddie Massad Emergency and Trauma Center cares for the most severely injured patients from across the region, from the time of injury and transfer to our care, to discharge and rehabilitation.  The Trauma Center is the most technologically advanced emergency care facility in the area and is supported by dedicated operating rooms, intensive care units and nearby X-ray and imaging suites.

The Trauma Center is located at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester--home to LifeFlight, the region's only air ambulance--and is the only Level One Trauma Center for adults and children in Central Massachusetts. In fact, we've been verified as a Level One center by the American College of Surgeons since 1987. This means you get an unmatched depth of experience and a higher standard of care when you need it most.

We also have a specialized NeuroTrauma Intensive Care Unit to provide the highest level of treatment for patients with brain injuries.
