Blood Donor Center
Blood donation is one of the most important gifts you can give. Thank you for considering donating blood to be used for patients at UMass Memorial Health Care. When you give blood you are helping to save the lives of patients’ right here in our community including:
- Those undergoing cancer treatment
- Accident victims
- Transplant recipients
Your donation of whole blood is later separated into components, including red blood cells, plasma and platelets. A single blood donation can help as many as three patients.
Helping Patients at the Medical Center for More Than 25 years
The Blood Donor Center has provided transfusion medicine products and services to patients for more than 25 years. Our dedication and commitment continues today as the center collects blood/blood products from healthy volunteer donors and helps us care for adults and children, including cancer patients, trauma victims, children with sickle cell anemia, and patients requiring organ transplants or heart surgery.
In fact, UMass Memorial Medical Center uses about 31,000 blood products each year to meet the needs of our patients. Since donated blood can be stored for only a limited period and the need for blood is constant, donations are needed on a regular basis. Help us prevent a blood shortage and become a regular blood or platelet donor today!
To schedule an appointment, call 508-421-1950.
Appointments are required for platelet donations. Appointments may be made but are not needed for whole blood donations. Walk-ins for whole blood donations are always welcome.
Please note: Latex Balloons No Longer Allowed at Medical Center
Due to allergic reactions to latex and the possible choking hazard for our pediatric patients, these balloons are no longer allowed. Mylar balloons are acceptable to bring into the hospital.
